These
unique sculptures, animals, totems, cactus or decorative objects
are made of blown glass.
The
glass is worked at a temperature of 2000° F (1100° C)
The glass blower takes a small amount of glass to work it with
a blow-pipe, including colors and shaping the sculpture. Once
the shape is finalized, the sculpture is placed in a "lehr"
oven, used to slowly cool the glass over a period of a few hours
to a few days, depending on the size of the pieces. This keeps
the glass from cracking due to thermal stress. Nicolas also mixes
glass with different materials such as wood, metal and silicone.
